Nylon yarn

Nylon yarn is one of the most durable synthetic fibers available. It is abrasion and wear-resistant and can withstand rigorous outdoor use. This makes it  ideal  for backpacks, tents, and other outdoor gear. Nylon is the name of a type of synthetic polymer commonly used in making many different types of clothing and consumer products. Unlike other organic and semi-synthetic fibers, nylon fiber is entirely synthetic and not based on organic materials.

In the early days of nylon fabric, consumers found the fabric to have a number of problems. Although previous marketing efforts had described nylon as “stronger than steel,” nylon proved to be highly susceptible to kink and tearing, and the fabric’s lack of moisture-wicking properties also raised concerns. In extreme cases, nylon stockings turned to coal and water.

Nylon 6 filament yarn

Nylon yarn is also called polyamide yarn (PA). Nylon yarn includes nylon 6 yarn (PA6) and nylon 66 yarn (PA66). Nylon 66 and nylon 6 have different molecular chain arrangements, so they have different properties. Under similar process conditions, nylon 66 is more crystalline and regular than nylon 6, so nylon 66 has a higher melting point (melting point is 40°C higher than nylon 6), lower permeability, stronger deformation resistance and other characteristics.

Types of nylon 6:

There are 6 types of nylon.

Nylon 6 HOY:

Nylon 6 HOY (Highly Oriented Yarn) is similar to POY in that it is produced through a high-speed spinning process to create stability and crystallization without a drawing process. Nylon6 HOY is bright and soft with 15 denier to 400 denier. Suitable for apparel and industrial use in weaving, circular knitting, warp knitting and fancy yarn processes. Industrial yarns with 200 denier up are suitable for bag or suitcase fabrics.

Nylon 6 FDY:

Nylon 6 FDY (Fully Drawn Yarn) comes in various lusters and specifications, including 15 to 800 denier. Suitable for apparel and industrial use in weaving, circular knitting and warp knitting. Industrial yarn is so versatile that various applications are available.

Nylon 6 POY:

Nylon 6 POY (Partially Oriented Yarn) is the first form of yarn that is made directly from the melt spinning process and comes in various lusters such as semi-dull, bright and black. And finds various downstream applications such as ATY, DTY and draw warping.

Nylon 6 DTY:

Nylon 6 DTY (Drawn Textured Yarn) is made from POY through the texturing process. By twisting and pulling at the same time. The specifications range from 20D to 400D. It is suitable for processing into circular knitting and warp knitting for apparel, covering yarn, dyed yarn,  fancy yarn, etc.Nylon

6 ATY:

Nylon 6 ATY (Air Textured Yarn) is also known as warp-like yarn. Nylon 6 ATY is obtained when POY is drawn and texturized by air flow in a chamber. ATY has the characteristics of being light weight, wear-resistant, easy to clean and quick-drying, and is suitable for sportswear, casual wear, jackets, backpacks, luggage and chairs, etc.

Application

Suitable for apparel and industrial uses such as woven, circular knitting, warp knitting and fancy yarn processing. Clothing, swimwear, underwear, linings, ribbons, elastic bands, socks, umbrellas, bags, suitcases, fancy yarns.

Nylon Uses 

Apparel – shirts, corsets, lingerie, raincoats, underwear, swimwear, cycling wear.

Industrial Uses – conveyor and safety belts, parachutes, airbags, nets and ropes, tarpaulins, twine, tents.

Used to make fishing nets. It is used as plastic in manufacturing machine parts
